This photo was taken as its namesake crew prepared to head back home on their last L040 run before retirement. Many others joined me on this day to wish the engineer and conductor a final farewell. 8400 had been on L040 for 3 years at this point (mostly) and had served the Kingman brothers faithfully until the end. The locomotive also bears the title Spirit of Robey after an engineer that used to work in PA.
